Walker Dominates as Sweets Claim Home Opener
Walla Walla strikes out 18, rallies late and gives Manager Leo Rivera his first home win with the Sweets

WALLA WALLA, Wash. (June 2, 2026) – The Walla Walla Sweets gave the Borleske Stadium crowd plenty to cheer about in Tuesday night’s home opener.
Behind a late offensive push and a dominant relief outing from Jett Walker, the Sweets took down the Corvallis Knights 5-3 to earn their first home win of the season and give Manager Leo Rivera his first victory at Borleske as head coach.
Walla Walla jumped in front right away in the first inning. Trevor Tse reached to open the night and quickly put himself in scoring position with a stolen base. Mateo Rickman followed by reaching base, and Troy Osborne brought home the first run of the game with a double to left field, giving the Sweets an early 1-0 lead.
Corvallis moved ahead with single runs in the fourth and fifth, but the Sweets answered in the bottom half of the fifth. Rickman came around to score on Osborne’s second RBI double of the night, tying the game at 2-2 and continuing Osborne’s hot start to the summer.
The Knights pushed back in front in the sixth, but Walla Walla had its biggest swing of the night waiting in the bottom half.
Bo Stinson and Gunner Geile both reached to set the table, and Logan Nakamura delivered with a two-run double to left field, bringing both runners home and putting the Sweets back in front 4-3. Payton Knowles followed with a sacrifice fly to score Nakamura, giving Walla Walla a 5-3 lead.
From there, Walker took over.
Making his Sweets debut, Walker was electric out of the bullpen, tossing three scoreless innings while striking out eight and allowing just two hits. He struck out the side in the seventh, added two more punchouts in the eighth and finished the night by striking out the side again in the ninth to lock down the win.
Perry Stow also gave Walla Walla a strong start, throwing five innings with eight strikeouts and no walks. As a staff, the Sweets struck out 18 batters on the night.
At the plate, Osborne continued to swing it well, finishing 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs. Through his first three games, four of his six hits have gone for extra bases, including three doubles and a home run.
Nakamura added another multi-hit night, going 2-for-4 with the go-ahead two-run double in the sixth. He is now hitting .571 through the first four games of the season, continuing a steady start at the plate.
After closing opening weekend with a comeback win in Yakima, Walla Walla carried that momentum home and picked up its second straight victory in front of the Borleske crowd.
The Sweets continue the series against the Corvallis Knights on Wednesday, June 3. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. at Borleske Stadium.
