Sweets Round Out Roster For the Season

The Sweets add three pitchers and a handful of partial contract players

WALLA WALLA, Washington – With Opening Day just weeks away, a trio of pitchers—Aidan Rady, Alex Figueroa and returner Kolby Solomon—are set for a summer of baseball with the Walla Walla Sweets.

Solomon, a right-handed pitcher at Lewis-Clark State College, previously played two seasons at Gonzaga University. The redshirt junior has thrown 23 innings this season, primarily as a closer or late-inning reliever. He holds a 3.52 ERA with four saves and has allowed just 18 hits. Solomon throws a four-pitch mix featuring a fastball, changeup, curveball and a recently developed cutter.

“I am really known for my curveball. I started throwing it when I was 10 years old,” Solomon said.

Solomon began playing baseball at age 4, inspired by his father, Ty Solomon, who played at Washington State in the mid-1990s. He brings previous experience with the Sweets, having played two full seasons and finished last year’s campaign on a 10-day contract.

“One of my favorite memories was, I actually blew a lead but we came back and walked it off that night. After that we all sprinted to the pool behind center field and jumped in there,” Solomon said.

Figueroa, a right-handed pitcher from Tucson, Ariz., has most recently played with Cochise College. In 57.1 innings pitched, he holds a 3.61 ERA for the Apaches. Figueroa features a four-pitch arsenal including a sinker, curveball, changeup and a slider/sweeper, and delivers with a low arm slot.

“I am looking forward to compete and experience a new place to develop, grow and learn from the coaching staff and my teammates,” Figueroa said.

Figueroa is currently in his second year with Cochise.

Rady, also a right-handed pitcher, is a junior at George Fox University in his third year with the Bruins. Originally from DuPont, Wash., Rady attended Steilacoom High School. This season, he has pitched 59.2 innings and holds a 6.18 ERA. Rady throws both a four-seam and two-seam fastball, along with a splitter and a slider.

“I’m beyond excited to pitch for the Walla Walla Sweets this summer. I am so grateful for the opportunity to compete, work hard and experience something new,” Rady said.

The Sweets have also signed several players to partial-season contracts, including Xavier Hattenburg, Dylan Torres, Keegan Weston, Cole Stoddard, Tristan Schaefer, John Porter Strother, Zane Bidwell, Nigel Fahland, Davis Grawey and Caleb Richter.

Fans can catch these players in action at Borleske Stadium. The home opener is set for June 6 against the Ridgefield Raptors. Single game tickets are on sale now.
