Sweets Dominate in Non-League Game
WALLA WALLA, Wash. — The Sweets got back on the right track Thursday afternoon, beating the Cascade Collegiate League Showcase team 11-1. Walla Walla put together their highest scoring inning of the season, plating seven runs in the third inning.
The bats were hot at the start of the Independence Day matinee for the Sweets, scoring three runs in the first inning. Andre Graham got the scoring started with a two-RBI single and then was later brought home off an RBI single from David Mysza.
The third inning was when the Sweets scored the bulk of their runs. Twelve batters stepped up to the plate and brought home seven runs off five hits. Six of the seven runs came with two outs on the board. The two-out rally started with Kennedy Hara who stepped up with the bases loaded. Hara dropped a single into center field that brought home all three runs and put the Sweets up 7-0. A Cort MacDonald single and Davis Mauzy walk loaded the bases again for Graham, who drew his second walk of the inning to bring home another run. Kolby Felix brought home the final two runs of the inning with a single to left.
On the mound, the Sweets took care of business. Connor Marshall made his first start of the season and put together a quality start. Marshall tossed six scoreless innings and struck out six batters.
Caiden Thomsen pitched the seventh and despite giving up the only run to the CCL, struck out two batters in his one inning of work.
Ryan Prescott pitched the final two innings, holding the CCL to just one hit and one walk while also striking out one.
In the eighth, the Sweets brought home their final run off a Mysza RBI single that scored Felix.
It is the second non-league win for the Sweets this season.
Walla Walla will play their final three non-league games Friday-Sunday against the Northwest Star NightHawks. This is the fifth season in a row the Sweets will play the NightHawks and are 6-1 all-time against them. First pitch is set for 6:35 and Sweets’ coverage of the game can be found on the Sweets’ YouTube channel.
