Sweets Sign Experienced Broadcaster for 2024 Season

Cooper Huskey brings NAIA, summer collegiate, and MiLB experience to Walla Walla

WALLA WALLA, Wash. — A veteran broadcaster with southern roots will make a cross-country trek to become the voice of the Walla Walla Sweets this summer.

Cooper Huskey is currently the assistant sports information director and voice of the Ave Maria Gyrenes, a NAIA university in Southwest Florida. Along with keeping stats, writing game recaps, creating promotional materials, and video editing, Huskey has called more than 100 broadcasts for the Gyrenes in football, soccer, basketball, baseball, lacrosse, and ultimate frisbee in his first two years. Huskey also oversees and teaches a group of students on how to run a professional broadcast.

This is Huskey’s second stint in summer ball, having served as the main broadcaster for the Seminole County Snappers of the Florida Collegiate Summer League in 2022. Huskey has also called a handful of games for the Stillman Tigers, an NAIA school in Alabama, and worked as a media intern for the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, the Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins.

Huskey graduated from the University of Alabama in 2022 with a bachelor’s degree in communication and information sciences with a concentration in sports media. While a student, Huskey worked for both the student radio and commercial television stations, serving as the sports director his junior year for the radio station, 90.7 the Capstone.

Huskey grew up in Jacksonville, Florida, and has never been to Washington before, but is excited to make his first trip to the Pacific Northwest in late May to start the 2024 season, “I hope to bring the same level of energy and passion the Walla Walla community has for the Sweets to the broadcast.”

The Sweets begin their season on the road at the Bend Elks on May 31, with the home opener at Borleske Stadium slated for June 7 against the Portland Pickles.
