Sweets Fall in Extras vs Victoria

WALLA WALLA, WA-  The Walla Walla Sweets dropped the final game vs Victoria HarbourCats 9-5 in 10 innings to end the first half of the WCL season. With the loss, the Sweets move to 10-17 on the year.

Both starters started out the contest strong as Walla Walla starter Aiden Aitken allowed only one hit in 3 and 2/3 innings but did allow the first run of the game to be scored. Hudson Shupe doubled in the third to get the H-Cats on the board first. Victoria also added a run in the fourth to take a 2-0 lead when Kieper Pate drove in a run due to an error by Cruz Hepburn.

Walla Walla found the answer an inning later when Hayden Driggs got his first hit as a Sweet on a base hit to center field. Driggs drove in Logan Meyer and fellow debuting Sweet Cayden Wotipka to tie up the ball game at 2 after five innings.

In the top of the eighth, the HarbourCats saw a pair of runs score to go up 6-4 a lead they held until the bottom of the ninth. In the ninth inning, the Sweets tied the game at 6 to send things to extras. Jakob Marquez got the first of the two runs in scoring Ben Parker to cut the deficit to one. Davis Carr then followed with an RBI double scoring Collin Curry who pinch-ran for Marquez to send things to an extra frame.

In the extra inning Victoria scored 5 runs in the top half which proved to be enough to steal a game in the series.
