Sweets Now Accepting 2018 Internship Applications

The Walla Walla Sweets offer summer internship opportunities for 2018

The thrill of working in an industry where success is measured by smiles, trophies and championship rings begins with enriching and hands-on internships – and pulling the tarp.

The Walla Walla Sweets, in an effort to create real-world experience not only for players but for talented management students as well, have posted three exciting internship opportunities for the 2018 season. Students seeking experience in sports management, facilities management, sales and marketing, and baseball operations are invited to apply, with positions involving Operations, Sales and Marketing, and Baseball Operations. “I was lucky to be able to start my career in baseball and sports management because of an internship,” said Sweets President Zachary Fraser. “That internship created relationships that are still important in my life today, and opened doors for new relationships and experiences that have allowed me to enjoy sports as a profession. I want others who are like-minded to have that opportunity.”

In addition to operating in a timeframe that matches well with school schedules, the Sweets franchise has strong professional relationships with many professional sports teams, management firms and companies tied to the sports world.

“Internships are valuable because of the real-world experience,” said Fraser. “But they are almost more important because of the ability it provides the students to build relationships and to start creating a network within the industry – a great intern can become a fantastic coordinator or manager with the right opportunities, opportunities that are found through meaningful internships.”

Fraser stresses that these internships aren’t just “making copies and fetching coffee”. Interns will leave with intimate understanding of how the business of baseball is conducted, and while the numbers at the major league level may be bigger, the operating metrics are no different. Interns with the Sweets will have had day-to-day management opportunities that would not exist with a major league club.

The best part? When the Sweets are champions, the ability to look back and say “I was there when…”. It is a rarity in one’s career to be a part of something successful from its inception, and internships provide that opportunity. Plus, you get to spend your summer at the ballpark and in the mountains of the Pacific Northwest – it will be a truly memorable experience.
