Travis, who has played baseball since age five, just concluded a stellar season at NCAA Division III member and postseason qualifier Whitman College. Craven posted an 8-6 record - after a 1-4 beginning - with a 3.08 earned average in 16 appearances, 14 of which were starts. Travis logged 102.1 innings and allowed 98 hits, and 35 earned runs. He struck out 81 and walked 37. Opponents hit just .252 against him. His shining moment came May 17 in game two of a best-of-five D-III Regional series at Chapman. He tossed all nine innings, allowed seven hits, one earned run and struck out five in a 2-1 Blues' triumph.
The Blues, who won the Northwest Conference Tournament championship and narrowly missed qualifying for a D-III Super Regional, finished 28-21.
Craven, who is a biology major pursuing medical school and currently working on his senior thesis at Whitman, said he is looking forward to playing for the Sweets this summer because "it is important to me to give back to the town that has been my home throughout my time in college."
Travis, the son of Brian and Ginny Craven, is a native of Goleta, Calif. His dad is a sports event management attendant and his mom is a substitute teacher. Craven's favorite baseball team is the Los Angeles Dodgers, his favorite player is Clayton Kershaw, and his favorite food is sushi.
