Bio: FROM 2018:
Johnston is a native of San Diego, California and attended Cathedral Catholic High School.
He utilized his redshirt seaon his freshman year at UC Irvine, but in 2017, returned to action and posted a .325 batting average with five RBI and six walks. On the mound for the Anteaters, Johnston appeared in 19 games and finished with a record of 2-3 and had an ERA of 5.64 with 25 strikeouts.
Johnston is returning for his third season with the Walla Walla Sweets, and said he keeps coming back because of his love for the team, the coaches, the competition, and the community in Walla Walla. Over his previous two seasons with the Sweets, he has compiled a batting average of .263 with three homeruns, 11 doubles, 30 RBI and 46 walks.
He is the son of Aimee and Jason Johnston, and he is pursuing a degree in education with a minor in management. Ryan plans to master in sports administration with a goal of becoming an athletic director.
Ryan Johnston has quietly crafted one of the all-time great careers in the history of the Walla Walla Sweets. He will return for the 2019 season to help lead the team on and off the field as a player and an assistant coach on Frank Mutz’s staff.
