Mooney, a senior at Liberty Christian School in Richland, Washington, is also committed to Gonzaga. He is ranked as the third-best left-handed pitcher in the state by Northwest Baseball and also plays first base, though pitching is his primary position. Mooney’s four-seam fastball tops out at 88 mph, and he also throws a changeup and a curveball with a spin rate of 2,600 rpm—higher than the average MLB pitcher. Mooney is ready for the high level of competition in the West Coast League.
