Darius Vines is from Oxnard, California and is attending Yavapai College but will transfer to Arizona State University in the fall.
He went to St. Bonaventure High School and was a standout athlete while there. Over his final two seasons there he compiled a .329 batting average to go along with 50 runs scored and 24 RBI. On the mound he added a 5-2 record with a 1.57 ERA and 46 strikeouts in 57.1 innings pitched. His senior year he was named as the Tri-Valley League MVP and the Ventura County Star's Baseball Player of the Year.
Vines played his freshman college season locally with Oxnard College and was exceptional while there. He remained a two-way player and hit .277 with 11 RBI and 24 runs scored, while adding a 4-4 record on the mound with a 1.94 ERA and 95 strikeouts over 83.2 innings. Following the season, he was selected in the 27th round of the 2016 MLB Draft by the Chicago Cubs.
Now attending Yavapai College, Vines has been stellar in his sophomore campaign. He has a 4-3 record with a 3.26 ERA and 55 strikeouts through 49.2 innings pitched so far this season.
Just recently, Vines committed to play out the remainder of his collegiate career with Arizona State University and will transfer there in the fall.
With the Sweets in 2017, Vines posted a 1-1 record with a 4.19 ERA and 42 strikeouts over 34.1 innings, held hitters to a .187 average and was named to the WCL North All-Star team. Following the season, he was tabbed the #8 prospect in the West Coast League and the #27 preseason JUCO draft prospect, both by Baseball America.
