When one talks about Chazz Martinez, they will discover that the native of San Pedro, Calif., is part of a large, athletic family.
Martinez, who has four brothers and sisters, will be looking to positively use the sports pedigree to his advantage as a member of the Walla Walla Sweets baseball club this summer.
Chazz - a member of a University of California-Santa Barbara team that claimed the program's first Big West Conference title since 1986 and finished the season 45-11 - can pitch, play first base or roam the outfield.
One of Chazz's shining moments occurred during an April 4, 2018 contest in which he slugged three home runs and drove in six.
Corona Del Mar won the PCL crown in 2017. Martinez batted .385 with a handful of round trippers and 32 RBI's.
His father Armando, a retired crane operator for the Port of Los Angeles, "played baseball his whole life and went on to play" professionally, Chazz said.
Martinez's brothers are Renae, Mondo, A.J. Kennison, and Ralphie Jumilla. Renae, who suited up for the Sweets in both 2013 and 2014, played baseball at the University of Oklahoma and is currently in the Arizona
Diamondbacks organization. Mondo played baseball for two seasons at Harbor College, and A.J. competed in football at NCAA Division II Western Oregon.
"(He) loved the experience," Chazz said of Renae's Walla Walla stay. "Getting the opportunity to come visit him one summer, I got to meet all the players, shag (batting practice), amd meet the coaches. Since then, Walla Walla has felt like a home and somewhere I've always wanted to play."
Chazz's sisters are Ramie, Alexa Kennison, Anissa Giron, and Danette Javier.
