CORVALLIS, Ore. (July 19, 2026) – The Walla Walla Sweets closed their weekend at Goss Stadium with one of their most complete wins of the summer.

Jaylen Kennedy drove in four runs, the pitching staff allowed only four hits and Walla Walla beat the Corvallis Knights 9-1 on Sunday to claim the series.

The victory also gave the Sweets the season series over Corvallis for the first time since 2018.

Walla Walla jumped ahead right away in the first inning. Sam Kane reached and came around to score on an RBI single from Royce Hale, giving the Sweets a 1-0 lead.

Corvallis tied the game in the second, but the Sweets answered with a big third inning.

Payton Knowles reached and scored on Kane’s 13th double of the summer, putting Walla Walla back in front. Hale followed with his second RBI single of the game, bringing Kane home and making it 3-1.

Bo Stinson later reached, and Kennedy came through with the biggest swing of the inning. The catcher drove a two-run double to bring home Stinson and Hale, stretching the lead to 5-1.

The double was Kennedy’s first of the summer and continued a strong recent run at the plate.

Charles Rogers III gave Walla Walla another solid start on the mound. The right-hander worked four innings, allowing one unearned run on three hits while striking out four. He kept Corvallis from building momentum after the second inning and left with the Sweets in front.

Walla Walla added on again in the fifth.

Hale and Stinson reached before Kyler Bittner worked a walk to help load the bases. Kennedy delivered again, lining a two-run single to score Hale and Stinson and push the lead to 7-1.

Kennedy finished 3-for-4 with a double and four RBIs. He entered the night with four RBIs on the season and doubled that total in one game.

Over his last three games, the Lower Columbia catcher is now 7-for-11 with seven RBIs.

The Sweets kept building in the later innings. Knowles scored on a wild pitch in the sixth, and Cole Rogers added an RBI single in the seventh to score Bittner and create the final 9-1 margin.

Knowles went 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored, while Hale finished 2-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs. Kane doubled, drove in a run and scored twice, keeping himself second in the WCL in doubles.

Stinson doubled, walked, stole a base and scored twice. Bittner reached three times with a hit and two walks, while Owens and Rogers each added hits.

Eight of Walla Walla’s nine starters recorded at least one hit as the Sweets finished with 12 as a team.

Alex Cohen took over in the fifth and continued his excellent stretch out of the bullpen. The right-hander threw three scoreless innings, allowing only one hit while striking out one and earning his fourth win of the season.

Cohen faced just 10 batters and helped keep the game firmly in Walla Walla’s control.

Quade Gonzalez IV followed with a perfect eighth inning, and Rudy Larson handled the ninth without allowing a hit.

Rogers, Cohen, Gonzalez and Larson combined to hold Corvallis to one unearned run on four hits. After allowing no earned runs in Saturday’s game, the Sweets pitching staff closed the series by holding the Knights without an earned run over the final two games.

The win capped a strong weekend in Corvallis after Walla Walla took Friday’s opener 10-5 and bounced back from Saturday’s loss. The Sweets scored nine runs or more in both wins and continued their strong run in the second half.

Walla Walla will take Monday off before returning home Tuesday, July 21, to open a series against the Yakima Valley Pippins at Borleske Stadium. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
