Reeser’s Five-Hit Day Powers Sweets to Holiday Sweep

Walla Walla erases a five-run deficit to complete a three-game sweep of the WCL South first-half champions

WALLA WALLA, Wash. (July 5, 2026) – Down five runs in the third inning, the Walla Walla Sweets found another gear and turned Sunday’s series finale into a Fourth of July weekend sweep.

Gage Reeser went 5-for-5 and scored four times, Nate Petz delivered three RBIs off the bench and Alex Cohen provided 4.1 steady innings of relief as the Sweets rallied past the Ridgefield Raptors 13-9 at Borleske Stadium.

The victory completed Walla Walla’s second sweep of the summer and came against the WCL South first-half champions, who had swept the Sweets in Ridgefield just two weeks earlier.

Walla Walla took an early lead in the first inning. Sam Kane and Reeser reached before Royce Hale put the ball in play, and a Ridgefield error allowed both runners to score for a 2-0 advantage.

The Raptors responded with three runs in the second and four more in the third, building a 7-2 lead.

The Sweets did not stay down for long.

Reeser and Kane reached to begin the bottom of the third before Petz, who had entered off the bench, put the ball in play. A pair of errors allowed both runners to score and sent Petz all the way to third.

Ethan Buckley followed with an RBI groundout, and Ronan Scoffield later scored on a single from Trevor Tse. The four-run inning pulled Walla Walla within one at 7-6.

One inning later, the Sweets completed the comeback.

Payton Knowles and Kane reached before Reeser drove a two-run double into left field, bringing both runners home and putting Walla Walla ahead 8-7.

Petz followed with an RBI double of his own, scoring Reeser. He later came home on a wild pitch to cap another four-run inning and stretch the lead to 10-7.

Ridgefield cut the advantage to one with two runs in the fifth, but the Sweets again had an immediate answer.

Knowles and Reeser reached before Petz lined a two-run single into center field, pushing Walla Walla’s lead back to 12-9.

Buckley added the final run in the seventh with an RBI single that brought Kane home for the fourth time.

Reeser turned in the best offensive performance of his summer, finishing a perfect 5-for-5 with two doubles, two RBIs and four runs scored. It was his second multi-hit game of the season and his first five-hit performance.

Kane reached base four times with a hit and three walks, scoring on each trip. Knowles also reached twice and scored two runs.

Petz made an immediate impact after entering the game, going 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored. Buckley drove in two, while Scoffield, Tse and Cole Rogers each added hits.

The Sweets scored 13 runs on 13 hits and drew six walks, finishing the series with 27 runs across three victories.

Cohen entered during the third inning and gave Walla Walla the stability it needed. The right-hander worked a season-long 4.1 innings, allowing two runs while striking out four and not issuing a walk.

He kept Ridgefield scoreless in the sixth and seventh, giving the offense time to build its advantage, and earned his second win of the season.

Charlie Seneker followed with a scoreless eighth inning, working around a walk to preserve the four-run lead.

Rudy Larson handled the ninth in his second appearance of the series. The right-hander worked around two walks, recorded a strikeout and kept Ridgefield off the board.

Walla Walla also played error-free defense and turned a double play for the third consecutive game of the series.

The sweep capped an impressive holiday weekend at Borleske Stadium. The Sweets won all three games against the WCL South first-half champions after entering the series having lost their previous two contests in Bend.

Walla Walla will take Monday off before beginning its longest remaining road trip of the summer. The Sweets open a three-game series against the Springfield Drifters on Tuesday, July 7, with first pitch set for 6:35 p.m. at Hamlin Sports Complex.
