Buckley Stays Hot as Sweets Close First Half at Borleske

Buckley finishes series 5-for-7 while Scoffield records first collegiate hit and RBIs

WALLA WALLA, Wash. (June 28, 2026) – A five-run rally gave the Walla Walla Sweets some life Sunday night as they wrapped up the first half of the West Coast League season at Borleske Stadium.

Ethan Buckley collected three more hits, Ronan Scoffield recorded the first hit and RBIs of his collegiate career and Blake Moore turned in his longest collegiate outing, but the Sweets dropped the series finale to the Wenatchee AppleSox, 13-6.

Wenatchee jumped ahead early and built a six-run advantage through the top of the fifth, but Walla Walla answered with its biggest inning of the night.

Cole Rogers started the rally by reaching base before Austin Owens, Isaac Torres and Gaines Haussin helped load the bases. Sam Kane brought home the first run with a sacrifice fly, and Buckley followed with an RBI single into right field.

Mateo Rickman, making his first appearance in a week after working his way back from injury, added a sacrifice fly to score Torres and cut the deficit to three.

Scoffield then delivered the biggest moment of the inning. Making just his second start of the summer, the outfielder singled into center field to bring home Buckley and Haussin, pulling Walla Walla within one at 6-5.

The hit marked Scoffield’s first in a Sweets uniform and the first of his collegiate career. His two RBIs were also the first of his college career.

Wenatchee added on in the sixth, but the Sweets continued to push. Torres reached and later came around to score on an RBI single from Haussin, giving Walla Walla its sixth run of the night.

Buckley led the lineup with a 3-for-5 performance and drove in one. After being added to Saturday’s lineup shortly before first pitch, the catcher finished the final two games of the series 5-for-7 with four RBIs.

Haussin added two hits and an RBI, while Kane and Rickman each doubled and drove in runs. Kane’s double moved him into a tie for third place on the WCL leaderboard.

Rickman’s double provided another encouraging sign in his return to action. Rogers, Owens and Torres also added hits as the Sweets finished with 11 as a team.

Moore provided Walla Walla with steady work out of the bullpen after entering in the second inning. The right-hander threw a career-long four innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out two and helping the Sweets work their way back into the game.

Trace Green handled the final 3.1 innings and struck out one, giving Walla Walla length on a night when the bullpen was asked to cover eight innings.

Although the first half ended with a loss, the Sweets still did what no other team has been able to do this season, and hand the Wenatchee AppleSox their first series loss of 2026.

The Sweets will take Monday off before opening the second half of the WCL season on the road. Walla Walla begins a three-game series against the Bend Elks on Tuesday, June 30, with first pitch set for 6:35 p.m. at Vince Genna Stadium.
