Buckley Drives in All Three as Sweets Clinch Series

Unexpected starter delivers two hits while Cohen and Hallam combine for five scoreless innings

WALLA WALLA, Wash. (June 27, 2026) – Ethan Buckley was not originally scheduled to be in Saturday night’s lineup, but by the end of the game, he had driven in every Walla Walla run.

Buckley collected two hits and all three RBIs, Alex Cohen delivered four scoreless innings in relief and Isaac Hallam struck out the side in the ninth as the Sweets edged the Wenatchee AppleSox 3-2 at Borleske Stadium.

The win gave Walla Walla back-to-back one-run victories over a Wenatchee club tied atop the WCL North Division and secured another series win for the Sweets.

Walla Walla struck first in the second inning. Sam Kane doubled to get himself into scoring position, and Buckley followed with an RBI double to left field, his first extra-base hit of the summer, to give the Sweets a 1-0 lead.

Wenatchee moved ahead with two runs in the third, but Trevor Stowe limited the damage and kept Walla Walla within one. Making his third start of the summer, Stowe worked four innings and allowed just one earned run on two hits.

The Sweets found their answer in the sixth.

Kane and Gunner Geile opened the inning with a single and a double, putting runners in scoring position for Buckley. The catcher came through again, lining a two-run single into right field to score both runners and put Walla Walla back in front, 3-2.

Buckley finished 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs after being a late addition to the starting lineup.

Kane once again helped create the offense, going 2-for-4 with a single, a double and two runs scored. Geile added two hits and scored the go-ahead run, while Cole Rogers recorded his first two hits of the season one night after making his 2026 Sweets debut.

Isaac Torres also doubled as Walla Walla finished with four extra-base hits among its eight hits.

Once the Sweets regained the lead, the pitching staff took care of the rest.

Cohen entered in the fifth and turned in his best and longest outing of the summer. The right-hander worked four scoreless innings, allowing only two hits without issuing a walk. He needed just 45 pitches to record 12 outs and earned his first win of the season.

Hallam took over in the ninth and left no room for a comeback. The returning Sweet struck out all three batters he faced, needing 13 pitches to earn his first save of the summer.

Stowe, Cohen and Hallam combined to hold Wenatchee to four hits and one earned run. The bullpen did not allow a run, walk a batter or surrender an extra-base hit across the final five innings.

The night ended with another first at Borleske Stadium, as fans were treated to an Adam West Batman-themed drone show, the first drone show in the ballpark’s history.

The Sweets will go for the sweep Sunday, June 28, in the final game of the first half of the 2026 WCL season. First pitch against Wenatchee is set for 6:05 p.m. at Borleske Stadium.
