Rogers Shines as Sweets Close First Home Series
Matador strikes out eight over six innings while Walla Walla finishes series victory over Corvallis

WALLA WALLA, Wash. (June 4, 2026) – The Walla Walla Sweets came up just short Thursday night at Borleske Stadium, falling 6-4 to the Corvallis Knights in the series finale, but still wrapped up their first home series win of the summer.
After taking the first two games of the set, Walla Walla had a chance to finish off the sweep and carried a lead into the late innings before Corvallis rallied back. Even with the tough finish, the Sweets closed the series with plenty to build on, including another strong night from the lineup and a standout start from Charles Rogers III.
Corvallis jumped ahead with a run in the first, but Rogers settled in quickly from there. Making his second start of the season, the right-hander was locked in after the opening frame, throwing six innings while allowing just one run on three hits. He struck out eight and walked just one, giving the Sweets a strong chance to control the game.
Walla Walla tied things up in the third inning when Payton Knowles got aboard and came around to score on an RBI single from Trevor Tse.
The Sweets took the lead an inning later behind one of their hottest bats. Logan Nakamura tripled to right field, bringing home Landon Young to make it 2-1. Nate Petz followed with an RBI single to shortstop, scoring Nakamura and pushing the lead to 3-1.
Walla Walla added another run in the sixth. Gunner Geile tripled to put himself in scoring position, and Mateo Rickman came through with an RBI double to right field to give the Sweets a 4-1 advantage.
Corvallis trimmed the lead in the seventh before scoring three times in the ninth to move in front.
The Sweets finished with 12 hits on the night, continuing a strong offensive stretch to start the season. Tse, Nakamura and Petz each had multi-hit games, while Rickman, Tse, Nakamura and Petz all drove in runs.
Nakamura continued his red-hot start at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored. Through the first two series of the season, he is now hitting .625, putting him at the top of the West Coast League leaderboard.
Walla Walla also showed plenty of extra-base pop, with Knowles, Geile and Nakamura each recording triples, while Rickman added a double.
Even with the late loss, the Sweets leave the series with back-to-back wins over Corvallis and their first home series victory of 2026. Walla Walla has now won three of its last four games after dropping the first two games of opening weekend.
The Sweets will stay at Borleske Stadium as the homestand continues Friday, June 5, with the opener of a new series against the Bend Elks. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
