Portland Trio and CMU Right-Hander Add to 2026 Roster

Three University of Portland players join Colorado Mesa pitcher for summer campaign

WALLA WALLA, Wash. – University of Portland talent Troy Osborne, Logan Nakamura, and Nolan Umlandt, along with Colorado Mesa right-hander Carson McKinney, are set to join the Walla Walla Sweets for West Coast League action this summer.

Osborne, a redshirt freshman from Grants Pass, Oregon, joins the Sweets after redshirting the 2025 season at Sacramento State before transferring to Portland. A decorated prep standout at Grants Pass High School, Osborne was a four-time team MVP and two-time league Player of the Year, earning first-team all-state honors twice while hitting above .470 in each of his final three seasons. He brings a steady presence behind the plate and is especially looking forward to reuniting with a familiar face this summer.

“I am most excited for this summer with the Sweets because I get to see my old teammate Nikhil Beasley and play with him again because we went to Sac State together,” Osborne said.

Joining him from Portland is Logan Nakamura, a freshman infielder from Redmond, Oregon. A Ridgeview High School graduate who plays both middle infield and third base, Nakamura credits his family for introducing him to the game at a young age.

“My dad and uncle introduced me to the game and are the reason I play,” Nakamura said.

Also representing the Pilots is Nolan Umlandt, a right-handed pitcher from Sherwood, Oregon. As a freshman, Umlandt appeared in a team-high 24 games with three starts, logging 39.2 innings and 28 strikeouts. He earned his first collegiate victory against Pepperdine and delivered one of his strongest outings against Santa Clara, throwing four scoreless innings with five strikeouts. Now a true sophomore, Umlandt was drawn to Portland for its proximity to home and strong coaching staff.

“I chose Portland because it was close to home, as well as it being a beautiful campus and an awesome coaching staff,” Umlandt said. “My dad first got me into baseball. He’s always been a huge baseball fan, so we shared that bond of baseball and never looked back. I’m most excited about being in a different environment and playing with high-level players from around the country.”

Rounding out the group is Carson McKinney, a redshirt junior right-handed pitcher from Tomball, Texas. A Briarwood Christian High School graduate, McKinney’s path to Colorado Mesa included time at the University of Texas, Blinn College, and Howard College, competing in the JUCO World Series with the Buccaneers in Grand Junction before joining the Mavericks.

“I chose Colorado Mesa because of the coaching staff and the history of winning,” McKinney said. “My path has been crazy. I broke my foot at the University of Texas while I was pitching, ended up going to Blinn College and played in the JUCO World Series in Grand Junction, and that’s how I found out about Colorado Mesa and how beautiful the stadium and campus are. I’m most excited to be in a different part of the country and be with my Mesa teammates. I’ve heard nothing but great things about the organization and I’m excited to represent the Sweets.”

Osborne, Nakamura, Umlandt, and McKinney will join the Sweets for West Coast League action, with Walla Walla opening the 2026 season on the road against the Yakima Valley Pippins on May 29 before hosting the Corvallis Knights at Borleske Stadium on June 2.
