Bruins and Matadors Bolster Sweets Roster for 2026
UCLA and Cal State Northridge talent highlight first wave of Division I additions

WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Two incoming UCLA arms in Garrett Jacobs and Nico Bavaro, along with Cal State Northridge freshmen Charles Rogers and Mateo Rickman, are set to join the Walla Walla Sweets for West Coast League action this summer.
Garrett Jacobs, a right-handed pitcher from Manhattan Beach, California, is committed to UCLA and will graduate from Mira Costa High School this spring. One of Southern California’s top prep arms, Jacobs is eager to take the mound in the West Coast League and experience the Pacific Northwest.
“I’m most excited to be out on the field every day and see Washington,” Jacobs said.
Joining him from UCLA is Nico Bavaro, a left-handed pitcher from Escalon, California, who will enter his freshman year with the Bruins this fall after graduating from Saint Mary’s High School in Stockton. Bavaro cited UCLA’s coaching staff and culture as key factors in his decision and credits his father for sparking his love for the game.
“I chose UCLA because of the coaches and the culture they have there,” Bavaro said. “My dad first got me into baseball. I’m most excited to play in Canada this summer.”
Helping represent Cal State Northridge is Mateo Rickman, a freshman corner infielder from Torrance, California. A Torrance High School product, Rickman plays both first and third base and is looking forward to building relationships on and off the field during his time in Walla Walla.
“I’m excited to see new faces with the Sweets and build some new relationships with my coaches, teammates, and fans this summer in Walla Walla,” Rickman said. “I’d also like to shout out my mom and dad for their sacrifices and support in helping me get to the position I’m in today, both in baseball and in life.”
Also joining the Sweets from Cal State Northridge is Charles Rogers, a freshman from Lake Elsinore, California, who brings two-way ability as both a right-handed pitcher and outfielder. A graduate of Centennial High School, Rogers chose CSUN for the opportunity to compete at the Division I level and make an immediate impact.
“I wanted to play D1 baseball, and CSUN gave me an opportunity to make an impact on the team,” Rogers said. “I played all sports growing up, but baseball stuck with me, and my parents encouraged me along the way. This summer, I’m excited to win games and meet new guys on the team.”
Jacobs, Bavaro, Rickman, and Rogers will join the Sweets for West Coast League action, with Walla Walla opening the 2026 season on the road against the Yakima Valley Pippins on May 29 before hosting the Corvallis Knights at Borleske Stadium on June 2.
