Sweets Swept by Knights After 8-2 Loss
WALLA WALLA, Wash. — The Sweets got swept by the Knights after an 8-2 loss to cap off the series finale in Corvallis.

The Sweets were looking to snap a six-game losing streak ahead of the series finale against the Knights, but out of the gate it was the Knights that got off to a hot start. Blake Wilson, Brock Ketelsen and Thomas Ferroggiaro opened the inning with three straight singles to load the bases. Maverek Russell then lifted a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Wilson for an early 1-0 lead.
After a turbulent bottom of the first inning, Sweets starter Issac Hallam started to settle in, working through the second and third unscathed. However, in the fourth, Cole Katayama-Stall and Maddox Riske led off with infield singles before Xavier Rios ripped an RBI double to center, bringing home Katayama-Stall. A wild pitch then allowed Riske to score and give the Knights a 3-0 lead.
Brooks Avery followed it up with a walk, then stole second, and Blake Wilson singled to center, plating both Rios and Avery to make it 5-0 and ending Hallam’s night. He finished his day through 3 1/3 innings, allowing five runs with five strikeouts.
In the fifth, the Sweets got on the board with a two-out rally. Max Finkelstein reached on an infield single for his first hit with the Sweets. Tristan Schaefer followed with a single to right, and then Cole Rogers singled to the same spot, driving in Finkelstein to make it 5-1.
However, in the sixth, the Knights buried potential comeback chances with a three-spot. Brooks Avery singled and stole second. Blake Wilson walked, and Ketelsen followed with an RBI single to right, bringing home Avery and moving Wilson to third. Wilson later scored on a groundout to make it 7-1, and Ketelsen came home on an error, pushing the lead to 8-1 before the inning ended.
In the ninth inning, the Sweets scraped one run across, but it was not enough as Walla Walla lost 8-2. Walla Walla scored two runs in all three games against Corvallis.
Despite the seven-game losing streak, the Sweets are not completely out of the playoff conversation. With six games to go, the Sweets trail the Elks by 2.5 games. Bend has just three games remaining. If Bend loses all three to end the season, the Sweets can make the postseason with a 5-1 finish. If Bend goes 1-2, Walla Walla would need to win out to make the playoffs.
Tomorrow, the Sweets travel to Ridgefield to take on the Raptors at 6:35 p.m. Fans can catch the broadcast on the Walla Walla Sweets Mixlr channel starting at 6:15.
