Sweets Lose 5-2 Against Knights, Drop Series
WALLA WALLA, Washington – The Sweets lost a tight 5-2 ballgame against the Corvallis Knights subsequently losing the series.

In the bottom of the first frame, the Knights took yesterday’s momentum with them and struck first. Blake Wilson reached on an error and later scored as Antonio Castro walked, stole second, and came home on a single by Cole Katayama-Stall. The Knights took advantage of two defensive errors to take an early 2-0 lead.
In the top of the second, the Sweets wasted no time with a response. After Trevor Tse singled to lead off the inning, Tristan Schaefer ripped a two-out RBI double to right, scoring Tse and cutting the Sweets’ deficit to 2-1.
In the third, the Sweets knotted up the scoreline. Cole Rogers grounded out to third for the first out, but Andrew Demianew doubled for his second straight at-bat to center field. Demianew now has as many extra-base hits in Corvallis — three — as the rest of the season combined. Then, with two outs, Nikhil Beasley came through with a clutch single to left, bringing home Demianew to tie the game at 2-2. Trevor Tse then grounded into a fielder’s choice to end the inning, but the Sweets had evened things up.
After a scoreless bottom of the third, the Knights retook the lead in the bottom of the fourth. After back-to-back strikeouts to start the inning, Blake Wilson and Antonio Castro singled to put two on. Thomas Ferroggiaro was then hit by a pitch to load the bases, prompting a pitching change. Sweets starter Peysen Sweeney ended his day allowing three earned runs with seven strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings.
Paxton Fenberg entered the game for Walla Walla, and Maverek Russell drew a walk to force in Wilson, giving Corvallis a 3-2 lead. Moments later, Katayama-Stall worked another walk to bring home Castro and make it 4-2. Braeden Mondeau followed with the third consecutive walk of the inning, scoring Ferroggiaro to push the lead to 5-2 before the inning finally ended.
From there, the scoreline remained unchanged as the Sweets could never muster an offensive burst to even the score. As the Knights wrapped up the last out and secured the series win, the Sweets lost their sixth straight game and are now three games out of the second wild card spot.
The Sweets look to salvage the series finale against the Knights on Thursday at 6:35 p.m. Fans can catch the broadcast on the Walla Walla Sweets Mixlr channel starting at 6:15.
