Sweets Home Series Streak Ends As Knights Win 10-3
WALLA WALLA, Wash. — The Sweets home series streak ended as the Knights won 10-3 in a back and forth contest.

The top of the first inning started the same way yesterday’s ballgame started, with a pair of Corvallis runs. With two outs Maddox Riske singled to left to extend the inning. Antonio Castro reached on an error, moving Riske to second. Kellen Segel then delivered a single to left, driving in both Riske and Castro after a stolen base, putting the Knights ahead 2-0 before Trey Swygart struck out swinging to end the inning.
In the home half Walla Walla got on the board. Landon Young worked a four-pitch walk and quickly stole second for his team leading 12th stolen bag of the season. He then advanced to third on a flyout to center. Dominic Cadiz came through with a single to shortstop, scoring Young to make it 2-1.
In the bottom of the second Walla Walla grabbed their first lead of the series. Jacob Talbott led things off with a walk and swiped second after a couple of pickoff attempts. Tse followed by drawing a walk as well, and a Hunter Komine sacrifice bunt moved both runners into scoring position. After a strikeout by Billy Scaldeferri, Landon Young was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Troy Sanders then came through with a single to right, bringing home both Talbott and Tse to give the Sweets a 3-2 lead.
However the lead was short lived. Blake Wilson ripped a triple to right for the second straight day and came home on a single from Thomas Ferroggiaro. After a wild pitch and a groundout moved Ferroggiaro to third, Sweets starting pitcher Ben Reimers got a much-needed strikeout from Braeden Mondeau for the second out.
However, Corvallis wasn’t done — Kellen Segel worked a walk, stole second, and Trey Swygart delivered a clutch two-run single to left to extend the Knights’ lead. An error on a pickoff attempt allowed another baserunner before the inning finally ended on a strikeout. All five of the Knights’ first five runs came with two outs.
Reimers day ended after four innings giving up three earned runs with five strikeouts. On the other side Knights starting pitcher Trey Newmann spun five innings while giving up three runs with four strikeouts.
In the sixth inning Corvallis added on. Josh Proctor took Figueroa yard to left field for the only homerun of the game. Yesterday there was only one homerun as well and it also came from the Knights eight hole hitter.
With the Sweets already trailing 6-3 the Knights really put things out of reach. It all started with a leadoff walk to Blake Wilson and a single from Thomas Ferroggiaro that turned costly after a throwing error allowed Wilson to take third. Maddox Riske followed with a double to right, driving in Wilson and moving Ferroggiaro to third as the Knights continued to pile on.
After a groundout scored Ferroggiaro Trey Swygart delivered the dagger, a two-run homer to left to cap a four-run inning.
The Sweets were unable to mount a comeback in the bottom of the ninth and the game ended with a 10-3 Knights win. With the loss it is the first time the Sweets have lost a home series all year long as they fall to 6-1.
Tomorrow’s first pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM as the Sweets search for a salvage. The video broadcast can be found on the Walla Walla Sweets youtube channel at 5:45.
