Sweets Lose 17-3 Against the Pickles But Still Win Series
WALLA WALLA, Wash. — The Walla Walla Sweets lost 17-3 against the Pickles but still won the series to remain perfect in home series.

In yesterday’s ballgame the Sweets won a dramatic 3-2 walkoff win to win their third straight game and clinch a series win over the Pickles. In today’s contest it sure was dramatic but for a different reason.
Out of the gate both teams went scoreless in the first two frames. In the top of the third the Pickles got on the board first. With two outs and noone on Luis Castillo in his first time in the starting lineup in the series sent a moon ball to left field and put the Pickles on the board with a solo homerun. It was his first homer of the season.
In the bottom of the frame the Sweets answered right back. With two outs Gunner Geile doubled into the gap. Dom Cadiz then followed with another double to extend his 13 game hitting streak and level the score at one a piece.
In the top of the fourth the Pickles opened the scoreboard. Aiden Taurek led off with a single to short and advanced to second on a stolen base. A throwing error moved him to third before a wild pitch brought him home. Kyle McDaniel reached on an error, moved to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a two-run home run by Bryson Glassco to extend the Pickles’ lead.
Sweets starting pitcher Levi Anderson ended his night after four innings pitched allowing three earned runs with three strikeouts. Anderson had just two strikeouts combined in his previous two starts.
In the fifth the Sweets rebounded. Trevor Tse opened the frame with a single to left, and Gunner Geile followed with a walk. Dominic Cadiz kept the momentum going, singling to left to bring home Tse for the Sweets’ second run of the night. After a pitching change, Billy Scaldeferri lifted a sacrifice fly to center, allowing Geile to tag and move to third, making it a 6-2 ballgame. Landon Young reached on a fielder’s choice that forced out Cadiz at second but brought home another run.
Trailing by just one run the Sweets pitching held on in the sixth inning but could not get it done in the seventh. Joey Wright and Luis Castillo opened the frame with back-to-back singles before a walk to Josh Schleichardt loaded the bases. Aiden Taurek singled to right, bringing in a run, and Kyle McDaniel followed with an RBI single of his own. Bryson Glassco drew a bases-loaded walk to force in another, and Tony Otis lifted a sac fly to center to tack on a fourth run. Braydon Wooldridge then drove in one more on a fielder’s choice, ballooning Portland’s lead to 9-3
The Pickles did much of the same the rest of the way out. A three run eighth inning followed by a five run ninth inning highlighted by infielder Nate Stiveson throwing on the mound all led to the Sweets losing to the Pickles 17-3.
