Sweets Lose 6-1 Against the NorthPaws in Series Opener
WALLA WALLA, Wash. — After a much-needed off day, the Sweets returned to Borleske Stadium to open a three-game series with the Kamloops NorthPaws. Walla Walla entered the night 5-1 at home with a chance to stay unbeaten in home series openers.

Neither side scored in the first inning, but the NorthPaws struck first in the second. Jared Hall singled, and Matthew MacDonald followed with a sacrifice bunt to move Hall to second. Tanner Hornback then singled to left, driving in Hall for the game’s first run.
Kamloops added another in the third. Ethan Kodama reached on an error and stole second to start the inning. Sweets starting pitcher Aidan Rady recorded back-to-back strikeouts, but Drew Schmidt singled to move Kodama to third. Joey Rico followed with an RBI single, doubling the NorthPaws’ lead to 2-0.
The Sweets answered in the bottom of the third. Trevor Tse worked a walk and advanced to second on a single by Troy Sanders. Tanner Kern reached on a fielder’s choice, moving Tse to third. Dominic Cadiz delivered an RBI single to left, scoring Tse for the Sweets’ first run of the night. Walla Walla trailed 2-1 after three.
The NorthPaws extended their lead in the fourth. Hornback singled to left, and Anthony Setticasi followed with an infield single. Kodama then singled to bring in Hornback, making it 3-1 Kamloops.
From there, Kamloops’ pitching took over. Starter Mason Chien turned in a dominant outing, throwing seven innings of one-run ball, allowing five hits and striking out a season-high five batters. On the other side, Rady put together a solid start for the Sweets, going five innings while allowing two earned runs on eight hits with four strikeouts.
The NorthPaws tacked on an insurance run in the eighth and added two more in the ninth to put the game out of reach. Walla Walla was held without a hit in the final inning, and the game ended 6-1.
The Sweets continue their series against Kamloops on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m., with the broadcast available on the Walla Walla Sweets’ YouTube channel.
