UCLA Commits, GCU Pitcher Set for Summer Ball With Walla Walla
Sweets roster is coming into shape as they bring on three more D1 players

WALLA WALLA, Washington – Incoming freshman infielder Dominic Cadiz and outfielder Trey Gudoy, along with junior left-handed pitcher Justin Hanson, are set for an exciting summer in Walla Walla.
Hanson, a junior from Flagstaff, Arizona, currently attends Grand Canyon University but began his college career at Yavapai College in Prescott, Arizona, before transferring to Pima Community College for his sophomore season. With the Aztecs, Hanson pitched three innings without allowing a run. This season with the Lopes, the 6-foot-7 left-hander has appeared in one game, recording a strikeout. Hanson’s fastball tops out in the low 90s, and he also throws a slider and changeup.
Cadiz, a corner infielder from Sherman Oaks, California, is committed to UCLA for the upcoming fall season. This year, he has a .239 batting average for Notre Dame High School after hitting .350 with 31 RBIs last season. Cadiz is also a strong defender, posting a .930 fielding percentage while committing just five errors in his varsity career. The California native is unfamiliar with Washington but is looking forward to the experience.
“I am looking forward to meeting new people in Washington and going to the state of Washington because I have never been,” Cadiz said.
Cadiz can also play corner outfield but is most comfortable at first base.
Gudoy, also an incoming UCLA freshman, rounds out the trio. The San Diego native and Cathedral Catholic High School product primarily plays in the outfield but has also spent time on the mound as a left-handed pitcher. Last season with the Dons, Gudoy posted a .316 batting average and has started this season red hot, hitting .429 through five games. Despite his recent success, Gudoy recognizes the challenges that come with the sport.
“Baseball gives me the opportunity to learn how to deal with failures and also learn how to become a team player, which translates to everyday life,” he said.
Gudoy, Cadiz, and Hanson are all eager for West Coast League action with the Sweets. Fans can see the trio at Borleske Stadium, with the home opener set for June 6 against the Ridgefield Raptors. Season passes are on sale now.
