A Trio of Division I West Coast Players Join the Sweets

Two infielders and a pitcher look to bring their talent to Walla Walla this summer

WALLA WALLA, Washington – Freshman infielders Landon Young and Nate Stiveson, along with sophomore right-handed pitcher Ben Reimers, are set to take the field for the Walla Walla Sweets this summer.

Young, a freshman from Highland, California, is a versatile infielder but is most comfortable and experienced at shortstop. He currently attends the University of Washington after transferring from Texas Christian University late last year. For Young, the decision to make a change came down to an opportunity for growth.

“I transferred to UW for a better opportunity. The coaching staff and facilities were awesome,” Young said.

Young has yet to play for Washington but had a standout career at Aquinas High School, where he graduated ranked just outside the top 100 shortstops in California.

Stiveson, a freshman infielder from Redondo Beach, California, attends Stanford University. A right-handed hitter, he primarily plays second and third base, limiting his errors to single digits during his time at Redondo Union High School. Stiveson credits his father for his early passion for baseball.

“I started playing when I was young. I always enjoyed it and knew it was something I wanted to do for as long as possible. My dad played a big role in it—he introduced me to the game and helped me see how fun it is,” Stiveson said.

Stiveson’s father played Division I baseball at Pepperdine before being drafted by the Montreal Expos. Now, Stiveson is ready for his own summer baseball experience.

“I am excited to play a ton of baseball and have a great summer with the Sweets,” he said.

Reimers, a sophomore right-handed pitcher from Aliso Viejo, California, also attends Stanford and has already made an impact for the Cardinal. He pitched 33 innings last season, recording 30 strikeouts and a 3-1 record. Baseball runs in the family for Reimers.

“My dad pitched at Stanford, and I was a baseball fan since I could walk, so that’s what made me play baseball,” he said.

Reimers features a four-pitch mix, including a fastball that sits in the low 90s, along with a slider, changeup, and splitter.

Reimers, Stiveson, and Young are all prepared for West Coast League action with the Sweets. Fans can catch them at Borleske Stadium, with the home opener set for June 6 against the Ridgefield Raptors. Season passes are on sale now.
