Three Young Players to Bolster Sweets Pitching Staff

Incoming freshman right-handed pitcher Tre Morse, incoming freshman left-handed pitcher Dawson Mooney, and freshman right-handed pitcher Jacob Talbott will take the field at Borleske Stadium this summer

Morse, a senior at Mountain Home High School in Idaho, is committed to Gonzaga University this fall. He is ranked as the No. 1 pitcher in Idaho, according to Northwest Baseball, and utilizes a four-pitch mix. His four-seam fastball, which touches the low 90s, is his primary pitch, but he also throws a curveball, slider, and changeup. Morse is eager to pitch in front of Sweets fans this season.

“I’m very excited to play for Coach Watilo and the Sweets. There’s a lot of great talent on this team, and I heard the fans make it a great experience,” Morse said.

Mooney, a senior at Liberty Christian School in Richland, Washington, is also committed to Gonzaga. He is ranked as the third-best left-handed pitcher in the state by Northwest Baseball and also plays first base, though pitching is his primary position. Mooney’s four-seam fastball tops out at 88 mph, and he also throws a changeup and a curveball with a spin rate of 2,600 rpm—higher than the average MLB pitcher of 2,545 rpm. Mooney is ready for the high level of competition in the West Coast League.

“I’m looking forward to being able to play and pitch against some very competitive teams and players. I’m also looking forward to walking onto that field with the lights shining, the stands full, and playing the sport I love,” Mooney said.

Talbott, a freshman at Biola University, is originally from Yorba Linda, California. Primarily a right-handed pitcher, he also plays in the middle infield. He has already recorded five hits in 16 at-bats this season. On the mound, Talbott has pitched 5 2/3 innings over five games, allowing 10 runs. His fastball sits in the high 80s, complemented by a solid mix of off-speed pitches. Despite being from California, Talbott chose the Sweets due to his connection to Washington.

“I chose the Sweets because of the competitive atmosphere, but also because I love Washington—my dad grew up there,” Talbott said.

Morse, Mooney, and Talbott bring youthful energy and a competitive edge that is sure to shine this summer for the Sweets. Fans can catch them in action at Borleske Stadium, with the home opener set for June 6 against the Ridgefield Raptors. Season passes are on sale now.
