Sweets Blanked in Series Opener
WALLA WALLA, Wash. — The Sweets got another great start Thursday night but could not find a way to get a run on Corvallis as they lost 4-0. It is the second shutout of the Sweets this season.
Josh Aribal was perfect on the mound through the first three innings of the ball game. The righty went nine-up, nine-down with five of those outs being strikeouts.
In the fourth, Corvallis finally got their first hits on Aribal to break up the perfect game and even load the bases. However, Aribal got a big-time strikeout to end the frame and leave all three runners aboard.
In the fifth, Corvallis scored the first run of the game. They added another in the sixth. The Knights scored their final two runs in the eighth.
Josh Aribal tossed a career-high 5.1 innings and struck out nine batters while only allowing two runs of six hits. Nine strikeouts is a season-high for one pitcher in WCL play.
Landon Salvesen and Jaxon Henderson finished the game off for the Sweets.
At the plate, the Sweets were having just as hard a time as the Knights were having with Josh Aribal. Corvallis’ starter Kaden Segel was perfect through 2.1 innings, but Hayden Driggs broke it up with a single up the middle in the third.
Walla Walla only managed four hits in the game, spread across four innings. The Sweets did not have multiple runners on base at any point in the game.
With the loss, the Sweets fall to 9-25 on the year and 0-8 in the second half. Their losing streak also increases to 10 straight games.
Walla Walla looks to get out of their funk Saturday with game two against the Corvallis Knights. First pitch is set for 6:35 and Sweets’ coverage of the game can be found on their YouTube channel.
