RIDGEFIELD, Wash. — Walla Walla dropped its seventh game in a row, losing their series opener to the Ridgefield Raptors 6-2. Ridgefield hit 16 singles in the game, the most hits allowed by Walla Walla pitching this season.

The Raptors scored all but one of their runs in the bottom of the second. Nine players stepped up to the plate as Ridgefield brought home five runs off six hits and one error. Three of the five hits were infield singles.

Walla Walla responded with two runs in third. With the bases loaded, Logan Meyer knocked a single to center field, bringing home Kennedy Hara and David Mysza.

The third inning ended up being the only scoring inning for the Sweets though. Walla Walla only collected two hits in the final six innings. Both of those runners were erased on double plays stopping any momentum the Sweets had. One of those hits was from Davis Mauzy, who extends a hit streak to nine games, tying a season high for the team.

Ridgefield added a run in the sixth to make it 6-2.

Despite 16 hits allowed, there were some positives on the mound. Walla Walla combined for 13 strikeouts Tuesday. Cam Soliz recorded four, Josh Aribal had three, Landon Salvesen got four and Caiden Thomsen finished the game with two.

With the loss, the Sweets fall to 9-22 and have lost seven WCL games in a row. That ties the longest losing streak of 2023 season, from July 6-13.

Walla Walla returns to action Wednesday for game two of the series with Ridgefield. First pitch returns to 6:35 after being pushed back to 7:35 Tuesday night due to excessive heat on the turf field at the Ridgefield Outdoor Recreation Complex. Sweets’ coverage can be found on Mixlr.com.
