WALLA WALLA, Wash. — The Sweets dropped their fourth game in a row to the Portland Pickles, losing 11-2. The Sweets got baserunners throughout the game, loading the bags twice, but had trouble finding the big hit to bring home the run.

Portland scored the first five runs of the game before the Sweets could get on the board in the bottom of the sixth. With runners on the corners, Logan Meyer grounded into a fielder’s choice to bring home Brooks Rasmussen to make it 5-1.

The Pickles added one run in the seventh and then five in the eighth to really blow the game open.

Defensively, the Sweets committed six errors, with five of them in the first four innings. The defensive miscues didn’t seem to burn the Sweets as much though compared to the big innings allowed late in the game.

The Sweets got another run the eighth with Kennedy Hara hitting a sacrifice fly to bring home Joel Esparza, but by then the game was out of hand.

In the ninth, the fans were given something to cheer about when Sweets pitching hit 10 strikeouts at home for the first time this season, giving everybody a free scoop of ice cream at Pine Cone Creamery. Walla Walla ended with 11 strikeouts on the game, a season high for the pitching staff.

With the loss, the Sweets fall to 1-6 on the year and have dropped the last four games straight to Portland. Walla Walla has one final game against the Pickles Sunday before they finally play and different opponent. First pitch is set for 6:05 on Sunday Funday. The first 50 kids in attendance will receive a free baseball provided by Tra Vigne. Kids can run the bases after the game, and face painting and ballon animals will set up around the stadium. For the adults, mimosas will be available for purchase. Gates open at 5:30.
