Two Freshmen Sign With Sweets
Sweets add a young pitcher and infielder to the roster
WALLA WALLA, Wash. — Two new players signed with the Sweets on Wednesday, left handed pitcher Landon Salvesen and infielder Luka Ruljancich. Both players are finishing off their first year in college this spring before spending the summer in Walla Walla.
Salvesen, a pitcher from Hooper, Utah, is joining the Sweets from Utah State Eastern. This season, he has made seven starts and posts a 4-3 record with a 2.82 ERA. Salvesen won his first ever collegiate start, tossing five innings while only allowing one run off two hits and striking out six batters. His best performance of the season so far was his start on March 2, tossing five scoreless innings and striking out 11 batters.
At Fremont High School, Salvesen was a two-time region champ, 1st Team All State and All Area, a Region MVP and an All Region Honorable Mention. In his senior year in 2022, Salvesen went 9-0 with a 1.54 ERA and 74 strikeouts over 54.2 innings.
This will be Salvesen’s first year in summer ball.
“I am super excited to be a part of the Sweets organization this summer and for the experience of playing in Walla Walla in front of the great fans,” said Salvesen.
Ruljancich, an infielder from Seattle, Washington, joins the Sweets from the Scottsdale Community College Fighting Artichokes. In his first season of college ball, Ruljancich has seen action in 18 games, getting 6 hits, two for extra bases. Defensively, Ruljancich plays on the corners, splitting his time between first and third base.
In Seattle, Ruljancich graduated from Bishop Blanchet High School. In his senior season, the Bears had a winning record of 11-8, ranking 28th in the state.
Like Salvesen, this season will be Ruljancich’s first year in summer ball.
“I’m super excited to spend the summer playing for the Sweets,” said Ruljancich. “Being able to play super competitive baseball in front of the fans in Walla Walla is something I’m really looking forward to. I can’t wait to get started and put the Sweets jersey on!”
