Sweets Drop First Game of Final Homestand of 2023
WALLA WALLA, WA- The Walla Walla Sweets failed to capture a victory in game one of their final homestand dropping the opener 6-3 to Portland. With the loss the Sweets move to 19-33 overall and 9-16 in the second half.
Portland started off the scoring by driving in Kyler Stancato due to the first of four errors made by the Sweets as Garrett Runyan could not bring in a throw from third baseman Mason Millar giving the Pickles a 1-0 lead after the second.
Portland added another run in the top of the third but the Sweets cut the lead back to one as Pu’ukani De Sa brought in Griffen Bushnell to get the Sweets their first run of the game making it 2-1 after three.

The Pickles got steady offense in the middle innings scoring all six runs from the second through the sixth with at least one run scored in each inning.
The Sweets kept the fight going getting a pair of runs in to score in the bottom of the seventh. Matthew Sauve drove in the first of two but went down on a 6-4-3 double play. The second of the two runs came from De Sa again when he drove in Bushnell for a second time on the night.

Nick Schoonover came in following a great start from Otho Savage punching out three batters in two innings but the Sweets couldn’t find any offense and fell 6-3.
