WALLA WALLA, WA-  The Walla Walla Sweets could not find their way back into the ball game after surrendering five runs in the first inning as Cowlitz would take the second game of the series with the Sweets 7-2 on Wednesday night. With the loss, the Sweets move to 2-9 on the year and drop their third series of the season.

Cowlitz came out hard as the Black Bears loaded the bases after a groundout to start the inning. However, the Sweets would have an opportunity to get out but 2nd baseman Kennedy Hara couldn’t haul in a ground ball and every runner would be safe, as the Sweets would have likely turned a double play if not for the fielding error. The Black Bears worked incredibly efficiently in the inning tacking on five runs which would propel them to victory.

Walla Walla showed fight as Davis Carr snapped a 12-game home-runless streak for the Sweets dating back to last year’s season finale, as the Sweets catcher cleared the left field wall and put the Sweets on the board in the bottom of the third. Carr sparked the Sweets’ offense as Ben Parker hit an RBI double to kick the Sweets into striking distance of Cowlitz at 5-2 after 3. 

Sadly the Parker double would end the significant offense for Walla squared as the Sweets wouldn’t drive another run in on the contest.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Sweets would go down 1-2-3 including a controversial strike three call to Ben Parker to end the inning. This tough call would lead to Manager Jarrod Molnaa being ejected from the ball game.

Sweets by the Numbers

– Logan Meyer would continue his league-best hit streak at now 11 games

– Davis Carr was able to leave the yard as the Sweets would become the final team in the WCL to hit a home run in 23

– Payton Knowles continued to work strong offensively going 3/4 in the loss.

– Landon Webb went six innings in relief allowing three hits and no earned runs
