Sweets Open Non-League Play With a Win vs NightHawks
WALLA WALLA, Wash- The Sweets were able to get the offense rolling as they scored a season-high in runs with their 13-5 victory over the NW Star Nighthawks.
The bats got going early for the Sweets, as they were able to score six runs in the first frame. The Sweets were able to load the bases as Malcolm Williams continued his hot streak with a 3-run double which made it 5-0. Will Fuenning would then drive in Williams to end the first up six.
The Nighthawks would score one in the fourth but Kai Osaka was able to get the Sweets out of the top half of the inning with a 4-3 double play, and then followed it up by casually blasting a solo shot to left to retake a 6 run lead.
Will Fuenning would re-enter the stat sheet as he was able to highlight a big fifth inning with a 2-run home run. The blast was Fuenning’s first with the Sweets. He would finish the day 2/4 with 3 RBI’s to extend his lead for the WCL’s top spot in batting average.
Sweets a run in the seventh to give them their 13th on the contest. The previously high this year was 12 runs being scored in a losing effort vs Ridgefield where the two team’s combined for the most in WCL history.
