Seven Former Sweets Selected in the 2018 MLB Draft

Walla Walla, Wash. – Over the last few days, seven former Sweets were selected in the 2018 MLB Draft. Of the seven selections, four of them went in the first 11 rounds.

4th Round – 132nd Pick / Houston Astros:

Alex McKenna (OF) – Cal Poly

6’2” 200   Bats: R   Throws: R

2015: Sweets.24210731


McKenna played with the Sweets in 2015 as a senior coming out of Bishop Alemany High School in Mission Hills, California.


7th Round – 220th Pick / Boston Red Sox:

Jarren Duran (IF) – Long Beach State University

6’2” 200   Bats: L   Throws: R

2016: Sweets.27826123


Duran was a member of the 2016 Sweets team and was one of the premiere players on the team.


9th Round – 276th Pick / Colorado Rockies:

Willie MacIver (C) – University of Washington

6’2” 200   Bats: R   Throws: R

2015-16: Sweets.2812641144


MacIver played for the Sweets in 2015 and 2016 and was named the No. 10 prospect in the West Coast League following the 2016 season.


11th Round – 323rd / Oakland Athletics:

Joe DeMers (RHP) – University of Washington

6’2” 230   Bats: R   Throws: R

2015: Sweets1-12.072730.1


Coming out of College Park High School in Pleasant Hills, California, DeMers joined the Sweets for the 2015 season and was one of the best arms on the team even at such a young age.


20th Round – 596th Pick / Toronto Blue Jays:

Vinny Capra (IF) – Richmond University

5’9” 160   Bats: R   Throws: R

2017: Sweets.291302681


Capra was a member of the 2017 Sweets team and was exceptional both offensively and defensively.


25th Round – 748th Pick / Seattle Mariners:

Connor Kopach (IF) – Southern Illinois University

6’0” 170   Bats: R   Throws: R

2015: Sweets.288191852


Kopach played for the Sweets following his first year at SIU and was one of the team’s best hitters throughout the season. Following the 2018 season, he was named a finalist for the Brooks Wallace Award which recognizes the best college baseball shortstop of the year.


39th Round- 1184th Pick / Los Aneles Dodgers:

Jordan Myrow (OF) – San Jacinto College
