Dallas, TX (January 7, 2010) – Memories of Vin Scully, Ernie Harwell, and Dave Niehaus making historical calls are part of the joy of being a baseball fan. Radio, summer nights and baseball go together.

With this important emotional connection in mind, the Walla Walla Sweets have reached an agreement with Capps Broadcast Group to have 1490 KTEL serve as the broadcast home of the Sweets’ inaugural season. All games, home and away, will be broadcast live over the air, and will be simulcast on the Internet at www.wallawallasweets.com. In addition to be the broadcast home of the Sweets, 1490 KTEL will have a partnership relationship at Borleske Stadium, including signage, web and promotional elements. The announcement was made from the Hilton Anatole Hotel and Conference Center in Dallas, TX, where the Sweets front office is gathered for the 2010 ABCA Convention, a collection of the top coaches and collegiate baseball scouts in the country.
“Baseball on local radio is a powerful tool that helps keep the fan base connected to the team,” said Sweets general manager Zachary Fraser. “We are excited to partner with a local group that takes pride in keeping the Walla Walla valley informed and entertained. We are especially excited to have our away games broadcast – fans can stay connected to the Sweets all season long whether we are at Borleske or not.”
“The Walla Walla Sweets are an exciting addition to our growing Walla Walla Valley,” said Randy McKone, general manager of Capps Broadcast Group. “The Capps Broadcast Group is anxious to continue to broaden our commitment to the Walla Walla Valley, and being the exclusive voice for the Walla Walla Sweets along with our commitment to the Wa-Hi Blue Devils just further cements our plan.” The team will begin the process of selecting the on-air broadcast talent immediately.
The Sweets, an expansion franchise in the West Coast League, will open up the 2010 season by hosting defending league champion Wenatchee AppleSox at Borleske Stadium on June 8. Season tickets are now available by calling 509.522.BALL (2255) or by visiting www.wallawallasweets.com.
