Walla Walla-
The Walla Walla Sweets defeated the visiting Bend Elks Friday night thanks to a walk off RBI from shortstop Adrian Williams (UCLA) in the bottom of the 10th inning. The 4-3 win over the West Division leaders marks the 6th consecutive victory for the Sweets.
The sixth inning once again changed the game for the Sweets. Walla Walla was trailing through the first 5 innings of play, until a rally in the 6th tied things up at 3. It all started with a single from Danny Poplawski (Georgetown). Next batter Adrian Williams (UCLA) was walked, and then a well placed sacrifice bunt from Sweets’ second baseman Kevin Kuntz (Kansas) advanced both runners into scoring position, paving the way for Christian Ramirez (UC Irvine) to rope a 2 RBI double, and bring his team within 1 run. Elliot Stewart (Cal-Poly) came up next and tied the game landing a shot over the infield for an RBI single.
Starting pitcher for the Sweets, Zach Clanton (L-C State), had a great showing on the mound in the win over the Elks. Clanton racked up 5 strikeouts, and gave up only 2 hits in his 8 innings pitched.
Elliot Stewart extended his hitting streak to 8 consecutive games tonight going 2–4 from the plate with 1 RBI. Christian Ramirez also hit well, going 1 – 4 with 2 RBI.
Strong defense in the top of the 10th inning kept hopes of another win alive for the Sweets. Adrian Williams made a great stop, and turned a double play for the first two outs, followed by a huge catch at the fence by leftfielder Andy Matthews (L-C State).
Bend's offense was scattered among 3 hits with Stephen Halcomb (Gonzaga) going 1-2 at the plate picking up a RBI and a run scored.
