Sweets Rocket Past the Stars

The Walla Walla Sweets battled tirelessly in a come from behind win over the visiting Portland Stars. Wednesday evening’s win at Borleske Stadium marked their fourth consecutive victory, and their 14th on the season.

Matt Comer (Treasure Valley) showed up huge for his team in the bottom of the 8th inning. Stepping up to the plate with the bases loaded, and no outs, Comer looked poised and prepared. He hit a well placed shot over the infield, scoring Denver Chavez (Cal-Poly), and tying the game. Portland brought in a new pitcher to quell the storm that was brewing for the Sweets. To the cheers of 1,300 baseball fans, Josh Daniel (St. John's)  was walked with the bases already full, forcing in the winning run for Walla Walla.

Portland went on a run right out of the gate racking up 2 hits and 2 RBI in the top of the 1st. The Sweets answered right back in the bottom of the inning when Christian Ramirez (UC Irvine) successfully stole home as his teammate was caught in a pickle between 1st and 2nd.

Ethan Ottemiller (Pacific Lutheran) came out with a vengeance in the 4th, blasting a 2 run homerun to put the Stars back in the lead. Just when his team needed it the most, a huge 2 run RBI single from Josh Daniel brought the Sweets back within 1 run of Portland in the 7th inning.
