Walla Walla -
The Walla Walla Sweets returned home to Borleske Stadium to take on the Portland Stars Tuesday night in front of 1,410 enthusiastic baseball fans. After winning their series on the road against Moses Lake, the Sweets were looking for their third consecutive win.

The Sweets came away with a huge win tonight thanks to the ever-consistent bat of Elliot Stewart (Cal-Poly). Stewart blasted a 2 run home run in the bottom of the 5th inning to help keep his team alive, and in case that wasn’t enough, he homered again in the bottom of the 8th inning, giving his team a strong 7 – 3 lead, which Portland could never recover from.
Stewart went an astounding 4 for 5 at the plate on the night, with 3 RBI. Denver Chavez (Cal-Poly) also had 2 RBI in the win over the Stars.

Portland went on a run early in the 3rd racking up 2 consecutive RBI, and taking the lead. Walla Walla trailed up until the 8th inning when a huge run blew the door open for their victory. Scott Gottschling (UC Irvine) started the run for the Sweets by jacking a standing double off the wall in left-center. Adrian Williams (UCLA) kept things going with a blooper into shallow right field, scoring one run to tie the game at 3. Walla Walla wasn’t done yet, as Chavez and Christian Ramirez (UC Irvine) both marked base hits in the books in front of Stewart’s homerun to put Portland away 7 – 3.

Don’t miss game 2 of the series as your Walla Walla Sweets take on the Portland Stars on Wednessday July 21st at 7:05 PM. Can’t make it to the game? You can always follow on 1490 ESPN with Andrew Allegretta, or online at www.wallawallasweets.com
