Walla Walla –
The Walla Walla Sweets were unable to bring anyone home tonight in a tough 5 - 0 loss to the division leading Wenatchee Applesox.
Elliot Stewart (Cal Poly), Josh Daniel (St. John’s) and Andy Matthews (Lewis & Clark) all had solid offensive showings for Walla Walla, going 2 for 4 from the plate tonight. As a team, the Sweets handled their bats well this evening. They racked up 8 hits, only one less than Wenatchee, however they couldn’t capitalize when they had runners on base.
Josh Daniel got the night started for the Sweets when he spoiled Tim Culligan’s (Lower Columbia) no hitter in the top of the 3rd Inning with a well struck single. Daniel has been one of the stronger hitters for Walla Walla thus far, batting .283 with 5 RBI’s on the season.
Wenatchee scored early on in the first inning, when a sacrifice fly from their outfielder resulted in an RBI. They padded their lead in the bottom of the 4th inning. Peterson helped the Applesox pull away with a one run home run in the bottom of the 6th. Wenatchee continued to score, again in the 8th inning, picking up 2 more runs, and putting the Sweets away with a final score of 5 – 0.
