WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Outfielder Spencer O’Neil was selected by fan vote to participate in the 2012 West Coast League All-Star game that will be played today, July 24 at Borleske Stadium. O’Neil suffered a minor shoulder injury earlier in the week and per league policy he has been replaced in the All-Star game by Sweets third baseman Shane Zeile.
Infielder Shane Zeile will replace Spencer O'Neil in the WCL All-Star game
“Spencer would have been a great addition to the all-star team and he was looking forward to representing the Sweets tonight,” said Sweets general manager Zachary Fraser. “However, our first concern is to keep players healthy and so the league decided to replace him on the roster with Shane Zeile.”
Zeile is currently leading the Sweets in batting average. He is hitting .317 with eight doubles, two triples, and four homeruns. Zeile has 26 hits and 16 RBI in 21 regular season games for the Sweets.
