The Kitsap BlueJackets travelled to Borleske Stadium to take on the Walla Walla Sweets. Kitsap rallied late in the 8th and 9th innings to take the game 7 – 4. In the heat of pennant race in the West Coast League’s East Division, the Sweets came into tonight’s game sporting a 5 game winning streak 7 if you count their non-league wins.

Kody Young (Columbia Basin College) had a great showing on the mound throughout his 7 innings pitched. He held Kitsap to only 1 run off 3 hits, and racked up an impressive 7 strikeouts.

The BlueJackets came out and took an early 1 – 0 lead in the top of the first on account of a wild pitch that slipped past Sweets’ catcher. Walla Walla answered back in the bottom half of the 1st inning when Elliot Stewart (Cal-Poly) extended his hitting streak with an RBI single, scoring Kevin Kuntz (Kansas). Dennis Holt (UCLA) extended the lead for the Sweets with another RBI, giving them their first lead of the game.

Rolling into the 8th inning, Walla Walla had extended their lead with an RBI from Denver Chavez (Cal Poly) in the 7th. The 2 run advantage wasn’t enough to keep the BlueJackets at bay, as back to back RBI from Andrew Mistone (UC Riverside) and Bobby Tannehill (Green River CC) put the Blue Jackets back on top. The late rally continued with a huge RBI from Chase Anselment (Washington) scoring two more runs, and putting the Sweets away.
