The Walla Walla Sweets took the field Saturday at Borleske Stadium looking for the series sweep over the Bend Elks, and their 7th consecutive win. The Sweets came out hitting on Saturday night, scoring 2 runs in the 1st inning, and eventually securing the series sweep with a 3 – 1 victory over Bend. This marked their 1st series sweep of the season and their second consecutive series that they have won.

Right hander Joey Wagman (Cal-Poly) had an impressive showing on the mound in the win over the Elks. He pitched a full 9 innings for the Sweets, holding the league-leaders to only 4 hits, and mowing them down with 6 strikeouts on 112 pitches.

Elliot Stewart (Cal-Poly) extended his hitting streak to 9 games in the first inning with a deep RBI double off the fence, scoring lead-off batter Kevin Kuntz (Kansas). Matt Comer (Seattle University) sweetened the lead when a high fly ball to right field was lost in the sun. Stewart scored to make things 2 – 0.

Walla Walla’s second baseman Adrian Williams (UCLA) was a defensive force against Bend. He was responsible for a key double play early in the game, and later in the night he made a phenomenal diving stop and threw out a runner from one knee.

Bend kept things interesting when a fly ball in the 4th inning was missed, allowing a run to score, and cut the lead 2 – 1. Despite the loss, Elks right fielder Chris Viegas (OSU) hit well Saturday, going an impressive 2 – 2 from the plate.
