JOHN GLENN NAMED WCL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

After a torrid six games against the Kelowna Falcons, Sweets first baseman John Glenn (Cal Baptist) nabbed West Coast League Player of the Week honors for the week of July 31 – August 6.

Glenn hit safely in every game this week, totaling 18 hits across six contests. The Sweets played three in Kelowna before traveling home for the back end of the home-and-away megaseries.

Glenn finished 13-for-16 in the three-game weekend set at Borleske Stadium, leading the Sweets to back-to-back wins on August 5 and 6.

Seven of those 13 hits went for extra-bases: six doubles and a home run to dead centerfield on Saturday.

The Sweets scored 29 total runs in their final two games.

Glenn’s spectacular week bumps his batting line to .316/.337/.439 across 50 games in the 2017 WCL season. He finishes with the second-highest batting average on the team, behind OF J.J. Hancock (Washington State).

15 of John’s 54 hits went for extra bases. He homered twice, tripled twice, and smacked 11 doubles. He also stole five bases and drove in 29.

Glenn was the Sweets everyday starter at first base this season and typically batted fifth in Frank Mutz’s lineup.

Glenn is the Sweets’ first WCL Player of the Week since RHP Kyle Molnar (UCLA) earned the honor after throwing the eighth no-hitter in WCL history during the final week of the 2015 season.

RHP Chris Lincoln (UC Santa Barbara) was also named WCL Pitcher of the Week for the penultimate week of July.

The PacWest Conference Freshman of the Year, Glenn batted .321 with five home runs and 38 RBI for the Lancers during the spring season. He garnered an All-PacWest Second Team nod.

Cal Baptist is ascending to Division I in 2019, Glenn’s junior season.

RHP Taylor Dollard (Cal Poly) of the Yakima Valley Pippins was named WCL Pitcher of the Week.
